Schmidt, O'Neal to File Brief Supporting Arizona Immigration Law

Two senior Republicans in the Kansas legislature will file a legal brief asking a federal appeals court to uphold Arizona’s authority to fight illegal immigration and enforce law-and-order within its borders. Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt, R-Independence, and House Speaker Mike O’Neal, R-Hutchinson, said they will file a friend-of-the-court brief asking the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to lift a district court’s injunction and allow the Arizona state law to enter into force.

They will file their brief with the San Francisco-based court in their capacities as individual members of the Kansas legislature.
