Accord Paves Way for Sales Tax Campaign

Now that Iola and Allen County leaders have come to accord on the hospital issue and the county has approved putting a sales tax increase to a vote in November, you can expect to hear much more about the issue. Supporters of the sales tax as a funding method for a new hospital have been organizing since the middle of last month, about the time recommendations were made to city and county leaders to build a new facility rather than renovating the existing ACH. Jim Gilpin of Iola and Don Copley of Humboldt are co-chairs of the campaign. Cost of the campaign, all of which must be raised privately, is expected to be about $10,000. Contact Gilpin or Copley to arrange a speaker for community organizations.
