Students from six Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, April 6, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and KU Endowment. A total of 35 seniors from high schools in Neosho and Wilson counties will be recognized for their academic achievements and named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner and program at the Chanute High School.
The Kansas Honors Program celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Since 1971, the program has recognized 114,000 scholars, who rank in the top 10 percent of their high school senior classes and are selected regardless of occupational plans or higher-education goals. Each year, the KU Alumni Association and its volunteers host 41 programs that reach all 105 counties across the state.
THose being recognized include:
Altoona-Midway High School: Alexandria Walker and Ely Walker
Chanute High School: Danielle Bagshaw, Erin Christiansen, Elizabeth Fehr, Taylor Gard, Ashley Gericke, Alec Haight, Jeana Lawrence, Katelyn Manahan, Deric Marr, Anrenee Reasor, Austin Rickabaugh, Mackenzey Sutcliffe, Jessica Tucker, Amy Weilert and Jordan Wiltse
Erie High School: Jonathan Bates, Marisa Hunn, Samantha Kendall, Whitney Lehenbauer and Deborah Sulenes
Fredonia High School: Mali Farwell, Olivia Jensik, Gaston Millar, Taylor Oakes and Kaitlyn Rogers
Neodesha High School: Aaron Ayers, Philip Depew, Andrew Hines, Garick Lair, Mary Welch and Jordan Wheeler
St. Paul High School: Haley Bradshaw and Erin Tuck
