Snow Days Extend School Year

Three of the five days lost to snow and clod weather last month will have to be made up, according to USD 257 officials. Teachers will attend staff development sessions to make up the other two. Two snow days were in the calendar as approved last summer -- those are April 22nd and May 19th. The school board this week approved adding May 20th to the end of the school year for students. The state allows the two other days to be overlooked for the kids because USD 257 meets state requirements for the number of classroom hours in the school year.

However, for teachers to work out their contracts, they have to be there the other two days. They can choose between staff development days set for May 23rd and 24th, or two days in either June or July.
