There's an effort in Iola to bring a Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic to the city, and after a meeting this week with U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran it seems like the project could be closer to happening. Carol McLean is leading the effort and told the Register the Senator will strongly recommend the clinic. President Barack Obama has pledged that by the end of 2013, 500,000 U.S. veterans will have access to health care in rural communities. The deadline to submit an application for the clinic is March 15, 2012.
