LeRoy woman to stand trial for infant's death

22-year-old Karen Marie Baliey from Le Roy will stand trial in the death of her newborn baby. She's been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated endangerment of a child, accused of giving birth to a baby sometime April 2, then allowing the newborn to die later that day. The judge made his ruling to proceed to trial after evidence suggested the baby died from “ineffective post-natal care.” Iolan Jack Geisler is the baby’s paternal grandfather, and testified he saw Bailey that morning and she refused his offers to help. She later admitted having the baby and said it was stillborn, then changed her story when autopsy results showed the baby was alive when it was born. Bailey will be arraigned June 30th and she remains in Coffey County Jail on a $500,000 bond until then.
